Metro Detroit · Independent Buyer

Preserving Local Automotive Service Excellence

Honoring the legacy of independent repair shops while investing in the next generation of technicians.

Who I am

I’m Jan Althaus — principal of Althaus Auto. I’m a serious local investor looking to acquire established auto repair shops in Metro Detroit and keep them running under capable local management.

Day-to-day operations stay with a hired general manager. I focus on strategy, major finances, and long-term stewardship — not on-site wrench work. The shop’s name, people, and community relationships matter; I’m here to build on what you’ve already earned, not erase it.

Open to seller financing when it helps a clean, respectful transition. Every conversation stays confidential.

What I’m looking for

We are actively seeking to acquire independent automotive repair facilities that fit the following operational profile:

Location Greater Metro Detroit / Southeast Michigan (Troy MI ±50 miles; Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties)
Facility 5–10+ service bays
Business model General automotive repair, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance
Reputation Established local brand with a loyal customer base and steady retail or fleet work
Transition Flexible exit terms for retiring or transitioning owners; seller financing considered
Manager-run continuity. After closing, a hired GM runs the shop day to day. I stay involved on strategy and major finances — so the business keeps operating with professional leadership while the owner’s legacy and team are protected.

How a conversation works

  1. Quiet first contact Email, call, or the form below. No brokers required. No public listing needed.
  2. Listen first We talk about your timeline, your people, and what a good outcome looks like for you — before numbers.
  3. Fit check If the shop aligns with the profile above, we explore terms respectfully and at your pace.
  4. Confidential throughout Staff, customers, and competitors don’t hear about it unless you decide they should.
